Single malt from Islay’s Caol Ila distillery, released as part of the Distillers Edition series. This one was matured from 2006 to 2017, including a finishing period in casks which has previously held Moscatel sherry. The sweetness imparted by the sherry casks plays very well with the salinity of Caol Ila’s whisky – excellent stuff every year, this is.
Region: Isle of Islay
Nose: Bread and butter pudding, cedar, sea shells and candied peels.
Palate: Earthy peat kicks things off, followed by oatcakes, mango chutney, maple syrup and dates.
Finish: Apricot, smoke, orange oil, menthol and sea salt.
