The third release of 10 year old Octomore single malt from Bruichladdich – what a treat! This heavily peated expression was drawn from a variety of casks, and the Bruichladdich folks on the Isle of Islay are more than happy to divulge into the details. 37% of the whisky was fully aged in first-fill Port pipes, 31% in first-fill Cognac casks and 20% in second-fill American whiskey casks. The remaining 12% was initially aged in American whiskey casks, then in virgin oak casks, and then back in to more American whiskey casks. The spirit itself was malted to 167 PPM, so expect a familiar helping of powerful smoke. 12,000 bottles were produced.
