An enjoyably punchy and heavily peated single malt from Bruichladdich’s Octomore range. Octomore 09.1 sets out to challenge the idea that older means better when it comes to whisky, and it does so by offering up a 5 year old Islay whisky weighing in at 156 PPM, matured in ex-American whiskey casks. Pleasing, they’ve even let us know exactly where those casks came from – they were 51% Jim Beam, 26% Jack Daniel’s, 15% Clermont and 8% Old Grand-Dad Casks.
