Compass Box Great King St – Glasgow Blend
Introduced to the Great King Street range by Compass Box in 2014, the Glasgow Blend is a superbly full-bodied blended Scotch whisky. It’s made with 33% Lowland grain whisky and 67% malt whisky from the Highlands, Speyside and Islay, aged in a combination of first-fill and refill ex-bourbon barrels and first-fill Sherry casks, with a small portion being finished in new French oak. Plentiful amounts of Sherried fruit touches surrounding a core of peaty notes – yummers.
Fun note: The label features a picture of The Wellington Statue outside of Glasgow’s Gallery of Modern Art, complete with traffic cone hat, said to be a symbol of the city’s sense of humour.
A 50cl bottle of Great King Street Glasgow blend – a peatier version of the Artist’s blend. The recipe is 33% Lowland grain and 67% malt (from Islay, the Highlands and Speyside), aged in a combination of first-fill and refill bourbon barrels, first-fill sherry casks, and a small amount being finished in new French oak. A rich and peaty style of blended whisky.
Region:
Other Scotch Whisky
Aroma:
A whiff of peat greets the nose first – there’s no shying away from the peat in this blend.
Flavours:
Deep, earthy notes of tobacco and fruitwood smoke. A pleasantly creamy body without tongue burn, and more wisps of fruit. Subtle but artful.
Character:
The peat earthiness continues, growing a little more smoky and allowing the fruit to drop away.
